Kudos to Decorative Center Houston owner Charles Cohen, who continues to support important contemporary art at his design mecca. Last night's cocktail fête at DCH toasted Stars of Design in eight categories including blue-chip gallerist Meredith Long (earning Lifetime Achievement honors) and visualists painter Aaron Parazette, photog Keith Carter and bauble-maker Melissa Borrell. The third-annual awards evening also inaugurated the next installment in the Center's "Design Loves Art" series, unveiling "Snap," a lively two-person show curated by New York-based Helen Varola. The exhibition explores the ongoing dialogue between a pair of former Core Fellows, honoree Parazette — known for his surfing-inspired, word-play canvases — and sculptor Sharon Engelstein (of the witty biomorphic abstractions) who are also husband and wife in real life (exhibition on view through July 2). Shown: Aaron Parazette's Surf Dog (detail), 2007.
