When I get a carnivorous
craving, I quell it at the Strip House, the sexiest steak house in town. Throughout the month of January, as
this David Rockwell designed space celebrates its 5th anniversary in Houston,
they’re offering guests a marvelous five-course tasting menu for $55.
Don’t
hesitate to make reservations–now–Chef Steven Vanderpool’s special selections,
at the moment, make for one of the best meals and deals in town. Indulge in
this perfectly portioned progression of courses, which starts with velvety
lobster bisque studded with lobster meat, the cappuccino themed portion topped
with a froth of cream and chives. Move on to a lighter tomato and mozzarella di
bufala salad with balsamic reduction, the thick cut slices of tomato grilled
slightly and drizzled with basil oil.
The seared sea scallop, the third course,
comes in bubbling buttery corn broth, while the entrée is a very manageable 6
ounce filet mignon (especially manageable for someone like me who falls back in
her chair at the sight of a sizzling 16-ounce steak coming her way). Napped
with a rich red sauce reduction its accompanied by a dollop of truffle-scented
creamed spinach and one decadent goose fat fried potato. Dessert is an
over-sized profiterole filled with espresso ice cream and topped with chocolate
malted cream and hot fudge sauce. It’s a meal not to be missed. Strip House,
