Pappagallo Bermuda bags,
cable knits in palmy shades of green and pink, crisp oxford button downs, tons
of argyle, madras plaid everywhere, and blue captain's blazers were some of the
country club-ish wardrobe cues at this weekend’s fund-raising fete, Be the Ball benefitting Glasstire and Fresh Arts Coalitions. It was literally a Lilly
Pulitzer-rama. But the venue was not ROCC, but the Bushwood Country Club, aka
Hermann Park Golf Course Club House channeling the zany attitude of the 1980s comedic romp, Caddy
Shack. Scene on the greens: Don Mafrige
Jr. wielding a mean putter; argyle-d out chairs Julie Kinzelman and Christopher
Tribble; perfect-in-pink chair Careen Plummer posing with Kasi Kubiak who
concocted a jaunty demi-hat resembling a putting green paired with an
Astro-Turf covered mini skirt (shown above, photography Dustin Mansyur); the
co-founders of Glasstire and Fresh Arts Coalition, respectively Rainey Knudson
and Marita Fairbanks in matching 80s-looks composed of big hair and outrageously poufed plaid frocks; Knudson's husband Art Guys Michael Galbreth in a mad
madras ensemble; Jenni Rebecca Stephenson of Spacetaker encased in a Gopher
mascot suit, also the attire of choice for legal eagle Will Stukenberg; Mandy
Graessle of Fresh Arts in Bushwood logo threads; artists Kelly Klaasmeyer,
Michael Bise with Moody Gallery's Adrian Page and Bill Davenport, all
contributing to the silent auction goodies; and perfect preppies Veronica and
Andrew Rentz, Gretchen and Andrew McFarland, Liz and Tim Glanville, Karen
and Stephan Farber, and Bill Goldberg (whose daughter Melissa will wed at the
CAMH next month), proclaiming, "The party combines my fave pursuits,
golfing and art." Check back soon for scenes of the Gopher in motion.
