Livingston, Texas, is the setting for playwright/University of Houston graduate Don Wilson Glenn's American Menu, which transports the audience back to May 1968 -- a tragic, pivotal time between the assassinations of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy. Five African-American kitchen workers at a segregated lunch counter explore the harsh reality of their lives, searching for inspiration and reconnecting with their sense of humanity.

The Ensemble Theatre stages this gripping production as part of its 2009–2010 Majestic Treasures Season. Performances run through Sunday, February 28, at 3535 Main Street. Tickets 713.520.0055; www.ensemblehouston.com.
