It took an entire week to recover from the DiverseWork Gala — which means the "Debutantes Run Wild"-themed bash was beyond memorable. Here follow impressions of an evening that would make River Oaks matrons tremble, held at this-may-be-our-fave new venue, The Bell Tower on 34th: gone goth Capital Ones' Paul Pettie escorting Meg Griffin (we loved his silver moon boots, wonder if he uses them in banker meetings?); DW co-director Sixto Wagan's Imelda Marcos-inspired get-up complete with butterfly sleeves and French manicure squiring co-director Diane Barber; gallerist Linda Darke Swaynos quipping, "Tonight, cross dressing is encouraged," while her husband Don Swaynos bemoaned, "But she wouldn't lend me her Spanks,"; Warhol gone over-the-edge Marshal Lighman in circa 1972 big-squared plaid jacket offset by tomato-red pants with wife Victoria, both bearing (we hope temp) tattoos advertising their Looking at Art classes; gal pals Eleanor Williams, Claudia Schmuckli and Christina Solís, all three outfitted as wayward prom queens; former debutantes tapped for the protocol committee including The Menil Collection's Emily Todd joined by Diana Bland Linder, who was persuaded to lent her 1964 Givenchy deb gown as a party prop; artist Harvey Bott, rushing over from his opening at Anya Tish Gallery, to join wife DeeDee who directs development for DW; artist honorees including Molly Gochman cutting a rug with Mark Haukohl on the dance floor, Dan Havel really celebrating his birthday with frequent collaborator and fellow honoree Dean Ruck and his sweetheart Debbie McNulty, the trio making an entrance in their Fur Mobile; Bell Tower owner Chuy Terrazas whose splendid party palace channeled a county club in old Mexico; dealer Arturo Palacios with dual dates artists Elaine Bradford (as homecoming queen meets Adam Ant) and Kia Neill, both ladies creating table decorations that were auctioned off; and the evening's inventive chairs Tracey and Patrick Keegan, who get kudoos for cooking up this mad, mod affair.
