Leave it to local gal turned supermodel Erin Wasson to make bones, skulls, arrows and snakes chic via embellishments on mixed-metal bangles, rings, necklaces and cuffs from her talked-about jewelry collection, Low Luv x Erin Wasson. To celebrate the debut, Wasson paused her catwalk schedule — which included Karl Lagerfeld’s iconic, iceberg-propped Chanel show in Paris — and jet-setted to Texas for a cocktail party and trunk show in her honor hosted by Liz Thompson and Jackie Bolin at their preternaturally cool V.O.D. boutique. Wasson, clad in a Raquel Allegra mini dress, well-worn boots and studded with Low Luv, mingled with Judy Aldridge, Jane Aldridge, David Quadrini, Matthew Earnest, Tammy Theis, and her glowing parents Chris and Mark Wasson. It was a happy homecoming, as Wasson’s baubles were nearly shopped to depletion by night’s end.
PaperCity Chats With Erin Wasson
PC: Inspiration for Low Luv?
EW: The collection should seem like you’ve had it forever. You know, I don’t do dainty very well.
PC: Three non-fashion items you must have when traveling?
EW: My BlackBerry, iPod ... and, well, a passport.
PC: What’s on your iPod?
EW: I’m very old-school ... lots of Van Morrison, classic rock, bluegrass.
PC: Three fashion items you can’t live without?
EW: Velvet, Alexander Wang boots and anything Missoni.
PC: Where you go to escape while in NYC? In L.A.? In Texas?
EW: In New York, my apartment’s rooftop. In L.A., I drive PCH with the music cranked up in my Bronco pickup truck. And I just bought an old log cabin outside Austin in Paleface, Texas.
PC: What was it like walking in Karl Lagerfeld’s Fall 2010 Chanel fashion show?
EW: Phenomenal. I remember walking out, and the music was so powerful — all I could think was, ‘This is literally a once-in-a-lifetime fashion moment.’
