Admiring and Acquiring: The Houston Antiques Dealers Association (HADA) organizes a venerated — and beloved — antiques show every spring and fall. Since 1964, HADA has lured the discerning and discriminating for three full days of sleuthing pieces great and small, from vivid, turn-of-the-century French cameo glass vases to palace-sized Persian rugs, stately Georgian silver, dainty diamond-encrusted Edwardian bijoux, Bayou Bend–worthy American furniture and 18th-century pedigreed portraits. This fall’s HADA Antiques Show continued the blue-blooded tradition, with a few surprises: personalized tours courtesy of ASID insiders; “Dressing Your Nests” talks led by award-winning designers Sharon Staley and Peggy Hull; and a PaperCity-sponsored Preview Party that spanned generations, where ardent and upcoming antiquarians and the design-obsessed fervently clinked cocktails and shopped. Once again, the show had a benevolent component, this time benefitting The Heritage Society; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Brookwood Community; and Houston Junior Forum Charities. Breezing through the booths: Karina and Carlos Barbieri; Jas Gundry; Josie Nevill; Jerry Jeanmard; Cliff Helmcamp; preservationist J.D. Bartell; Rosemarie and Jeff Roth; Rienzi director Katherine Howe with food historian Ivan Day, in from England; Louise Girard, who led an ASID tour; and HADA-member exhibitors including show chairman Sandra P. Smith of Sandra’s Treasures, Charlotte Nail of Charlotte Nail Interiors, Marion Glober of Past Era Antique Jewelry, Roger Howard of Roger Howard Antiques, Reggie Yannuzzi of English Surrey Antiques, sisters Lora Levin and Rachel Bley of LR Antiques, David Lackey of David Lackey Antiques & Art, and Pride of Persia’s Mehdi Abedi and Lisa Slappey. Save the date: HADA Spring 2012 Show, March 2 through March 4, at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
