"Zaibatsu” was the winning word that only Team Susman Godfrey (Rob Safi, Rick Hess, and Matt Behncke) could spell to garner the Great Grown-Up Spelling Bee trophy. Chairmen Sarah and Bradley Bracewell oversaw the most successful bee yet, staged at the Hilton Americas–Houston and raising more than $130,000 to help the Houston READ Commission (recently rebranded the Houston Center for Literacy). Under the spell: honoree Harrison Williams, Pierce Bush, Lindsey Fondren, Julie and Will Thomas, Max Barrett, Matt Johnson, and spelling-bee judge Nic Phillips.
