A refined affair brought together those whose charitable deeds make scholarships possible, and the recipients themselves. Y. Ping Sun, wife of Rice University’s president David Leebron, hosted an afternoon tea at the couple’s historic home, giving scholarship recipients including Mario Gonzalez, Romil Patel, and Renuka Rege the opportunity to express their gratitude to the Houston Junior Chamber of Commerce (the organization’s annual Consular Ball yields scholarships while ensuring diplomatic and economic ties between our city and foreign nations). This year’s white-tie fête, chaired by Philamena Baird, Melissa King, and PaperCity’s Kate Allen Stukenberg, will honor both France and Becca Cason Thrash.
