Star power filled the Hilton Americas–Houston ballroom at The Ensemble Theatre’s annual black-tie gala, this year themed “The Stars Come Home to Celebrate” in honor of the company’s 35th year. Actor TC Carson co-emceed the event chaired by Diedra and Terence Fontaine which raised more than $270,000 for the oldest and largest professional African-American theater in the Southwest. Nearly 400 guests partied to the sounds of Mary Griffin and the Ernest Walker Band. Alaina King Benford belted out a tribute to Lifetime Achievement Award winner Stephanie Mills, and Ntozake Shange was hailed as Playwright of the Year. Other players of the evening included: Mayor Annise Parker, president and first lady of TSU John Rudley and wife Docia, honorary chairs Soraya and Scott McClelland, additional honorees Vernon Landers and Wayne DeHart, and Anthony Hall.
