What started out as a small bike shop for at-risk youth in Houston’s Third Ward celebrated its 10th birthday this year. Workshop Houston’s first Lunch Shop luncheon, chaired by Elizabeth Winston Jones, with her mother, Susan Baker, serving as honorary chairman, showcased each of the four “shops” that make up the organization. The bike shop brought along some of their custom choppers, the style shop presented a fashion show, the beat shop brought out their best musical stylings, and the scholar shop schooled guests with a trivia game. Honoree Tony Chase received the inaugural Workshop Houston Community Leader Award for his own academic and mentoring feats. A fabulous silent auction — including items from Tootsies, Alley Theatre and The Continental Club — raised some $75,000 for the charity. Biker gang: Katy Goodman, Reginald Hatter, Sarah Atwood, Chris Goins, John Blackmon, Selven O’Keef Jarmon, board chairman Sam Jones, John Gaston, and Tarik Ward.
