Information and cultivation were the bywords when Will Strafford of Christie’s and author and blogger Ronda Rice Carman hit the Houston Design Center. First, it was off to the world of top-drawer antiques when Strafford was hosted by Charlotte Nail Antiques to speak on the rarefied demimondes of European furniture. Touching upon sales ranging from the deaccession of some 733 pieces from the private holding of Yves Saint Laurent to the auction of Doris Duke’s collections, Strafford emphasized the romance of antiquities. Taking note: Christie’s Houston associate vice president Jessica Phifer, Margaret Davis, Hallie Radcliffe-Canalli, HDC owners Sheri and Grant Roane, Cecilia Pacheco, and Sheila Lyon. Then it was into the pages of All the Best blog creator Ronda Rice Carman’s fascinating opus on interiors, Designers at Home: Personal Reflections on Stylish Living (Rizzoli), for a signing hosted by HDC showroom proprietor Ken Kehoe. The book details the individual approaches of design notables in their own homes, including Suzanne Rheinstein, Bunny Williams, Charlotte Moss, Rose Tarlow, Kevin Sharkey and Nicky Haslam. Tome-totalers: Lindsey Herrod, Eric Nevil, Carl Moore Antiques’ Connie Schlageter, Jonathon Glus, Nadia Michel, Lucinda Loya, Rachel Simon, Leslie Carothers, Rusty Arena, and Stanton Scott and Katie Stassi-Scott.
