Dallas’ Summer Concerts in the Garden: $10 Shows are a Summer Steal

BY Hannah Kirkpatrick // 07.12.17

The sun is setting, and the sound of live music is carried through the air with the evening breeze. Sprawled out on a picnic blanket, perhaps sipping a refreshingly cold beverage, you wish the lazy days of summer could go on forever.

We’re embracing the spirit of the season with the magical place that is the Dallas Arboretum and its annual Garden Gigs summer music series. For three Friday nights this month, the event features local musicians performing throughout the lush 66 acres.

Garden Gigs kicks off July 14 with three live acts — Jonathan FoxBecky Middleton, and Zach Coffey — and food-truck fare from Rick’s BBQ and Fried Pies For All.

Fox, an Austin-based independent singer-songwriter, will perform in the Lay Family Garden. He wrote, produced, and mixed the 12 songs on his upcoming LP “Loverlust,” which tests the boundaries of pop-rock and Americana and also features percussionist/co-producer Tristan Boyd, and guitarist Stephen Cinti.

Middleton creates music that flows between soul, pop, and rock. The Texan singer/songwriter will be performing in the Sunken Garden.

Coffey and his band, which will perform in Pecan Grove, burst onto the Texas music scene in summer 2013. Coffey’s sound stems from his love for country and knowledge of the classical era.

Garden Gigs runs from 7:30 to 9:30 pm (gates open at 6 pm) and offers sweeping views of Dallas at sunset, plus late access to the garden on the shores of White Rock Lake. Tickets are $8 for members and $10 for nonmembers; parking is included.
