Houston’s Most Unique Valentine’s Day Idea: A Top Chef’s Unexpected Silo Dinner

Houston’s newest creative studio space, The Silos at Sawyer Yards, puts its unique stamp on Valentine’s day with a five-course Progressive Art Party. Chef Soren Pedersen will prepare the wine-pairing meal which features dishes like pan seared lobster dumplings, chilled asparagus bisque, venison carpaccio, pepper-crusted filet mignon served with mushroom risotto and a warm, triple chocolate cake.

In addition to the courses, there will be hors d’oeuvres (shaved filet mignon topped with fig chutney on dark rye, eggplant confit and stewed olives served on pita bread with feta cheese, and grilled chicken served on roasted apples with broccoli pesto) and sparkling wine, all served before the dinner.

But the fare isn’t the only star of this experience. Each course will end with a studio tour of The Silos‘ art space, allowing guests to experience an array of diverse artwork.

Participating artists include Claire Cusack, Daniel Ortiz, Ellen Hart, Emily McCray, Erik Hagen, Gwendolyn Plunkett, Holly Hunter Berry, Jeanette Marie Powell, Jennifer Lan Parmer, Joan Laughlin, Judy Halter Fine Art, Laura Brown, Laura Tyagi, Myrrh Haslam, Michelli Cockburn, Monique Weston, Noëlle Mulder, Rebecca Molleyo, Samina Mahmood, Tiffany Recio and Vivian Pastor.

The Silos was opened in 2015 by the team behind Winter Street, Spring Street and Silver Street Studios. The contemporary art space was previously home to some of Houston’s oldest rice silos, and features more than 50 creative work spaces for artists.
