Jazz Legends Are Headed to MFAH: It’s a Summer of Music and Film

BY // 05.23.16

Jazz is coming to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. On three weekends in June, Jazz on Film — curated by Peter Lucas — will screen works by John Cassavetes, Sara Fishko, and Adam Kahan, among others, all dealing with the American invention that never goes out of style. (Nina Simone fans, take note: The Amazing Nina Simone, directed by Jeff Lieberman, plays on Friday, June 24, at 7 pm.)

Nina Simone

The riches in this series are many, including All Night Long (1962), The Case of the Three-Sided Dream (2014), and The Jazz Loft According to W. Eugene Smith (2015)You’ll see some great acting, meet vibrant and enthralling personalities, and hear some great music.

My top picks: See the film on Simone, and make sure to get to Shadows, Cassevetes’ directorial debut.

Jazz on Film, Friday, June 3, through Friday, June 24, at MFAH
