Pop Austin Returns With a Bang: A Major Rock Star’s Part of the Fair Market Fun
Cleon Peterson's "The Night," 2016, at Pop Austin
It’s Austin’s version of an art fair — loose, edgy, democratic, a touch of spectacle. Pop Austin, now in its third year, is the brainchild of Steve Carlson and wife/Pop Austin curator Lana Carlson. Once again, east Austin venue Fair Market serves as HQ for the convergence of painting, photography, sculpture, digital, and light-based art.
Thursday night’s Collector Preview beneficiary is Texas Cultural Trust, while regular ticket sales benefit Arts & Digital Literacy Initiative’s art-centric programming for high school students. Acquire works by talents ranging from the Gao Brothers to Incubus lead vocalist Brandon Boyd. Paris-based Nonotak Studio returns on Saturday night.
Pop Austin, Fair Market, 1100 East 5th St., Austin; Collector Preview (6 to 8 pm) and Opening Night (8 pm to midnight) Thursday, October 13; show days Friday through Sunday, October 14 – 16.
