Scratch those plans for Sunday’s downtown outing for the 24th annual Theater District Open House. It’s the first in what is expected to be more cancellations/postponements due to the anticipated torrential rains as a result of Hurricane Harvey.

“We regretfully announce that the 24th Annual TransCanada Theater District Open House has been cancelled,” said Theater District Houston CEO Kathryn McNeil, “due to expected severe weather, and out of concern for the safety of our employees and patrons.” Participants including Houston Grand Opera, Houston Ballet, Da Camera of Houston and the like will all be dark on this previously planned brilliant Sunday.

That comes at the same time that the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion announces cancellation of Sunday’s Lady Antebellum You Look Good World Tour. The pavilion announced that ticket refunds will be made at the point of purchase.

Thursday afternoon, the Houston Zoo announced that it will be closed Friday through Sunday with the possibility of closure on Monday, depending on the weather.

Of course, HISD has already cancelled classes for all its schools on Monday, which was the scheduled first day of the school year. The massive Coldplay concert at NRG Stadium, scheduled for Friday night, was finally cancelled during the day Friday.

The band tweeted at noon, “We really wanted to play tonight, but sitting here all together watching the news about the storm, we feel that we can’t ask anyone to put their safety at risk. So, sadly, we will have to postpone.”

Live Nation plans to reveal a rescheduled date for the Coldplay concert in the future.

The Mary J. Blige show set for Smart Financial Smart Friday night has also been called off — and rescheduled for Sept. 19. Lady Antebellum’s planned Sunday concert at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands had already been cancelled.
