Dave Chappelle’s Dallas Area Shows Get Canceled for This Weekend: Don’t Blame the Comic — Brand New $200 Million Concert Venue Has Issues

BY // 08.30.17

It looks like the Irving Music Factory, Texas’ highly-anticipated new entertainment development, is running behind schedule. The venue announced today that it is pushing back the Grand Opening festivities, which were supposed to kick off with a Dave Chappelle comedy show Thursday night and continue through Labor Day Weekend, to September 9.

Representatives from Live Nation, the company which books, manages and operates the Pavilion at the Irving Music Factory, say the new $200 million development simply isn’t ready.

“Due to construction delays in completing portions of the development on time and the assessment of the present status of the project, Live Nation has been forced to delay the opening of the Pavilion until Saturday, September 9.  It is with regret that we apologize to our patrons; however, it is important that we deliver a first-class venue experience,” the concert booking giant’s statement reads.

Originally, the Pavilion was set to open its doors on Thursday night with the first of two Dave Chappelle shows (the mysterious comic legend was also supposed to do a show Friday night). The Labor Day Weekend lineup also included concerts from Brad Paisley, Lifehouse and Switchfoot. The Goo Goo Dolls were scheduled to appear at the venue on Wednesday, September 6. All of the aforementioned concerts have now been cancelled.

Live Nation has rescheduled Dave Chappelle’s performances for October 26 and 27 at the venue, and original tickets will be honored.

However, Brad Paisley will not be rescheduled, Lifehouse and Switchfoot will move their concert to the Southside Ballroom on Monday (the original date), and the Goo Goo Dolls will perform at Starplex Pavilion on Wednesday, Sept. 6 (the original scheduled date).

Now, instead of having Dave Chappelle headline their big opening event, the Irving Music Factory will kick off on September 9 with a performance by iconic Texas band ZZ Top.

More than 25 bars and restaurants surrounding the Irving Music Factory will begin to open in September. Most will open later in the year, however – and in light of the Pavilion’s big delay, it’s likely that the whole development is running late. Stay tuned for updates.
