One of Houston’s Most Important Music Groups Gets Its Own Podcast: Insider Access Starts Now

BY // 03.09.16

Podcasts are everywhere. Magazines, musicians, newspapers, cooks, writers, stylists … they all have them. Who hasn’t listened to an episode of Serial? Well, the Houston Symphony has joined the movement with On the Music, a 30-minute podcast designed to give listeners an in-depth look at works performed by the ensemble.

“I look forward to enhancing the musical experience for listeners and bringing them closer to our art with the goal of transforming even more lives,” said Carlos Andrés Botero, the symphony’s music ambassador/assistant conductor, who is also the co-host of the organization’s “Musically Speaking” series at Rice University.

On the Music will take advantage of the NAXOS music library and Houston Symphony archival recordings to investigate, illuminate, and highlight masterpieces and lesser-known works in the classical canon.

The first two podcasts, currently available at houstonsymphony.org/onthemusic, will delve into Beethoven’s Second and Eighth Symphonies, which will be featured in the first concert of the 3 Weeks of Beethoven series, which began on March 4. These and future episodes, which can also be accessed directly from the On the Music SoundCloud channel, will be available on iTunes at a later date. On the Music is a co-production of the Houston Symphony and Houston Public Media. St. John Flynn, Houston Public Media arts and culture director, co-hosts the series.
