Houston’s Must-Attend Music Shows: A Quick Weekend Concert Guide

BY Ashley McElmurry // 11.14.15

It’s that time of the week when we cross off the to-do’s on our lists and enjoy some leisure. It’s a chilly weekend in Houston, so there is no better way to keep warm than sitting inside listening to music. Here are two shows for your consideration.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 14

Tosca @ Brown Theater, Wortham Theater Center, 7:30 pm

Sung in Italian with projection in English, Tosca is a story of deceit set in Rome during one of history’s most turbulent times. The Chicago and Houston co-production is a story of heartbreak, trust and betrayal.

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 15

Dvorák’s Serenado for Strings @ Jones Hall, 8 pm

Frank Huang has taken his favorite works for chamber orchestra and strings and compiled them into a magnificent serenade for a night at the Houston Symphony. Huang leads the symphony from the concertmaster’s chair as well as features as a soloist in Dvorák’s melodic Romance for Violin and Orchestra and Sarasate’s gypsy-inspired showstopper, Zigeunerweisen.
