Hurricane Harvey Heroes Offered Free Tickets to a Major Concert: Cajun Navy Part of the Fun

Saying thank you to first responders comes in many forms from buying their lunch to citywide  honors. Now comes Music With Friends — Houston with a special invitation to the Creedence Clearwater Revisited concert at Hobby Center on October 2.

Members of the Houston Fire Department, Houston Police Department and the Cajun Navy are invited to the intimate concert in Zilkha Hall as a thank you for “heroically searching, rescuing and attending to victims of Hurricane Harvey.” That invitation comes from Music With Friends — Houston founder Susie Criner.

“One hundred complimentary tickets (some donated by our generous members) will be available to first responders,” she wrote in an email.

The invitation was sent to the three organizations, which will determine who receives the plus-one tickets.

Before the concert, each of the individual organizations will be recognized by members of Music With Friends — Houston. Criner has asked the band if they would kick off the show with their so-appropriate hit “Born on the Bayou.

Criner and her husband, Sanford Criner, launched Music With Friends — Houston in 2014 as an antidote to the mega-concerts in venues such as Toyota Center and NRG. The Music With Friends concept was started in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 2007 for the purpose of offering concerts by legendary performers in a relatively intimate setting. (Zilkha Hall, where the concerts are held, seats only 500.)

The evenings begin with a cocktail party and conclude with a post-performance reception.

“It’s all about enjoying music that you like in an intimate setting with your friends,” Criner told this writer at the time that the Houston chapter was founded.
