The Independent Bookstore the World’s Been Waiting for is Opening in Dallas: Clever Concept Backed by Power Players

What, exactly, is an interabang?

It’s defined as “a printed punctuation mark designed to combine the question mark and the exclamation point (?!), indicating a mixture of query and interjection, as after a rhetorical question.”

The term is also the clever name of Dallas’ newest independent bookstore. Long-awaited by local bibliophiles, Interabang Books opens Saturday, July 1, on the corner of Preston Road and Royal Lane.

A concept from Nancy Perot (billionaire Ross Perot’s daughter), Lori Feathers of the National Book Critics Circle, and Jeremy Ellis (who’s had a successful career with Dallas’ Taylors Books, Houston’s Brazos Bookstore, and BookPeople in Austin), Interabang stocks thousands of titles spanning fiction, creative nonfiction, and children’s literature.

For the kids, a fun-filled schedule of author readings and interactive events is set for the summer and fall. On Saturday, July 29, a North Haven Gardens speaker will chat about all things horticulture and help little ones build their own gardens. Bring your pup on Saturday, August 12, for a Dog Days of Summer story time and drawing lesson.

On Saturday, September 16, learn more about beloved British author Roald Dahl; and celebrate the 81st anniversary of Winnie the Pooh‘s release on Saturday, October 14, with a story time and make-your-own bear mask.

For tots ages 2 to 5, there is also story time every Wednesday at 11 am.

Fans of iconic author Jane Austen will want to stop by Interabang on the 200th anniversary of her death, Saturday, July 15, for readings, games, and more.
