Dallas’ Endless Garden Takes Over May: Special Events Galore Turn the Arboretum Into the City’s Hotspot

Mother’s Day? Memorial Day? Just a beautiful Saturday? We can’t think of a better place to spend an afternoon this month than in a seemingly endless garden filled with fresh spring flowers, hence our excitement at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden‘s calendar, filled with events sure to make your May.

One great thing about those April showers is the flower bomb (think more rows and rows of perennials and less the Viktor & Rolf perfume) of blooms popping up in the Rose Mary Haggar Rose Garden as it enters its seasonal prime. On Friday, May 6, the arboretum will honor National Public Gardens Day with complimentary walking tours for guests with admission.

Celebrate Mother’s Day weekend with family portraits and live music on Saturday, May 7, and Sunday, May 8 (perhaps followed by tea at the historic DeGolyer House?) and Sunday brunch, featuring a full spread of fruit, cheeses, salads, sirloin and honey-glazed ham, potatoes, eggs, greens and, of course, pastries. Take advantage of the three-day weekend at the end of May with family-friendly activities from live music to a petting zoo; plus, the new Great Contributors exhibit of bronze statues by Gary Lee Price, designer for the Statue of Responsibility (the Statue of Liberty‘s proposed west coast-dwelling sibling), runs through Sunday, November 27. The collection includes statues of some of the world’s most influential thinkers: William Shakespeare, Mark Twain, Claude Monet and Abraham Lincoln (join the Twice Upon a Time Storytellers as they bring his story to life on Saturday, May 28).
