Petite Power: This $19.99 Wine Find Is the Perfect Antidote to Too Much Pinot Noir

BY // 10.18.15

A few weeks ago, during a trip to Austin, I was at a restaurant for dinner and my three dining companions and I decided to order a beautiful piece of meat for four, a cowboy steak that was worth every penny ($75). It was a lively table and our oysters were cold and briny and the wine list was open before me. Earlier that week I had read an article about Parducci, so when I saw the Petite Sirah from the winery, I didn’t hesitate. The choice made us happy.

It was a deep purple pour, lovely in the glass. Peppery notes were the initial dominant note, but they gave way to an oddly wonderful cedar and soil combination. We remarked on the mouthfeel – juicy without being flabby – and solid tannins. This was a winner wth the steak. A second pour 10 minutes into the bottle gave up an earthiness that I want to taste again soon. If you find yourself drinking too much Pinot Noir, give this Parducci a chance. I am certain it would be perfect with lamb.

This vintage is sold out at the winery, but Wine.com offers it for $19.99.
