Ah, tacos … the cure for everything, from pure hunger to recovering from the night before. As Houston rejoices over the news of Austin-born taqueria Tacodeli opening its first location in the city this fall, Dallas prepares for a second one to open at The Hill Shopping Center (Walnut Hill & U.S. 75), also sometime in the next several months.
Tacodeli is a concept from founder Roberto Espinosa and co-owner Eric Wilkerson; Espinosa’s many travels through Mexico — the Yucatan, Central Mexico, and along the coast — significantly influenced his epicurean approach.
The restaurant has had a cult following since opening in 1999, and rightfully so — its menu of more than 40 made-from-scratch tacos includes the Mojo Fish Taco (grilled line-caught Texas Gulf Drum, mojo garlic sauce, guacamole, pico de gallo); Cowboy Taco (dry-rubbed beef tenderloin, grilled corn, caramelized onions, roasted peppers, guacamole, queso fresco); and the Pollo Fantastico (shredded chicken, roasted green chile sauce, crema mexicana, green onions).
Dallas’ first Tacodeli debuted in 2015 at up-and-coming Sylvan Thirty district, and, considering the long lines always out the door, no doubt accounts for much of its foot traffic. The new Hill Shopping Center restaurant will be open daily, weekdays from 7 to 11 am (breakfast) and 11 am to 3 pm (lunch); and weekends from 11 am to 3 pm (breakfast and lunch).
