Texas is Still the Land of Tomorrow: State Dominates New Fastest Growing City Rankings — With a Surprise Twist

It seems that the saying “everything’s bigger in Texas” is becoming more and more accurate with time. The Lone Star State claims nearly half of the cities in the Top 10 on new rankings of the Fastest-Growing Cities in the United States.

WalletHub analysts compared 515 cities of various population sizes based on 15 measures of growth over a seven year period. Four Texas cities made the Top 10 – but the results still might surprise you…

Frisco topped the list at No. 1 overall, coming in at No. 1 for ‘sociodemographics,’ and No. 27 for ‘jobs & economy.’ The Collin County city got upgraded from its spot at No. 2 on the United States Census Bureau’s list of fastest-growing cities in 2016. But it’s easy to see Frisco’s rapid growth without any data.

The $5 Billion Mile — the impressive strip of development on the Dallas North Tollway — is one clear piece of evidence. Not to mention, the Dallas Cowboys recently set up shop in town, and Jerry Jones pretty much built another mini-city around their headquarters.

Of all the cities on the list, Frisco saw the highest increase in jobs and the second highest increase in population.

Midland, Texas was next Texas entry on the list at No. 5 overall. The West Texas city came in at No. 6 for sociodemographics, and 14th for jobs & economy. The once-tiny town has seen explosive growth in the past few years due to a healthy job market and affordable living costs.

Coming in close at No. 6 was McKinney, which ranked No. 5 for sociodemographics and No. 31 for jobs and economy. The North Texas city has experienced similar growth in jobs and population to its nearby neighbor, Frisco.

The last Texas city in the Top 10 was the capital of the Lone Star State. Austin came in at No. 9 overall, and was the No. 1 large city with the highest growth. The wonderfully weird city has been growing at an impressive rate for years now — it was named the No. 1 fastest-growing city by Forbes magazine in 2013, and things haven’t slowed down much. Not to mention, the national magazine more recently named Austin the No. 1 city in America.

Dallas and Houston fell much lower on the list of fastest-growing cities. Dallas sits at No. 112, and Houston at No. 185.

Still, it’s safe to say that everything is getting bigger in Texas.
