Texas Shocks the World, Wins Most Vegan-Friendly Stadium in America Honors: Sorry, Cali — You’re Just Too Meaty

BY // 05.31.17

Vegan baseball fans should be planning a trip to Texas. That’s right, Texas — the land of meat.

For in a sports upset on the par of Buster Douglas toppling Mike Tyson, the Texas Rangers’ Globe Life Park has been named the most vegan-friendly ballpark in America. By PETA no less.

Yes, Dallas’ (or at least, Arlington’s) baseball stadium is even more vegan friendly than the ballparks in plant eating mega cities such as Los Angeles and San Francisco.

The Texas Rangers concession stands were once a no-go for meat-shunning and dairy-free sports enthusiasts, but now it’s a destination. Globe Life Park added a vegan food cart just a year ago due to popular demand, and it apparently hit a home run. The cart offers dairy-free nachos, vegan chili, vegan chicken wraps, black bean burgers, vegan hot dogs, Texas BBQ meat-free jerky, and much more.

The new addition to the stadium put Globe Life atop PETA’s stadium rankings after a decade of not making the cut at all

The vegan cart offers a nice counterbalance to the array of meat-heavy options in the Rangers home – and seriously, there is a need for balance. We’re talking meat options such as the “Wicked Pig” sandwich, which includes ham, bacon, sausage, and pork rinds. Or the buffalo chicken wing and donut kabab. Or the two-foot-long, hot dog-filled tamale. Just reading those descriptions makes “meat-free jerky” sound a little less wild.

The Minnesota Twins, Arizona Diamondbacks, LA Dodgers, New York Mets, Oakland Athletics, New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, San Francisco Giants and Philadelphia Phillies follow the Rangers in the vegan standings. But there can only be one No. 1 — and it’s in Texas.

Whether you’re seeking a deep-fried experience of State Fair proportions, or you’re looking for some plant-based game day treats, Globe Life Park has all the bases covered. Alas, the vegan portion does not travel down I-45.

Minute Maid Park — the home of the Houston Astros, the team with the best record in baseball — did not crack PETA’s Top 10 rankings. Again.

Maybe, it’s all that Nolan Ryan beef.

Then again, if you look at the standings, maybe the Texas Rangers could use a little more meat. Sorry PETA — we’re kidding.
