BY Alexis Bierman // 02.29.16

Pizza lovers, rejoice: Matchbox American Kitchen + Spirit, the Washington, D.C.-based eatery known for its classic and artisan pizzas, opens today (Monday, February 28, 2016) in the burgeoning Preston Hollow Village district that’s also home to Pakpao, Trader Joe’s and Unit Skin Studio.

It’s the first Texas location for co-owners Ty Neal, Mark Neal and Drew Kim, who also have restaurants in Virginia, California and Maryland, and opened their first D.C. location in 2003. Matchbox’s Americana-meets-East-Coast menu boasts unique pizza combos like the prosciutto and white Turkish fig, hearty sandwiches (crab cake, prime rib french dip, bistro burger) and shareable plates of meatballs, calamari, spicy tuna tartare tacos and more. Is your mouth watering yet?

Spanning more than 8,000 square feet, it’s the spacious outdoor patio that beckons us for happy hour — sample twists on classic cocktails like the Matchbox Mule or a cucumber gin and tonic from Monday to Friday, 3 pm to 6 pm. Catch weekend brunch from 10 am to 3 pm, where the menu lists particularly intriguing items such as the bloody Mary burger and cinnamon rolls swirled with maple cream cheese icing. Matchbox, 7859 Walnut Hill Lane, 844.712.2369.
