What

Australian Aboriginal artists Silas Hobson and Irene Namok visit Houston’s Booker-Lowe Gallery for the opening of Sandbeach Dreamings, a group exhibition of works by ten leading artists from the remote Aboriginal community of Lockhart River in northeast Queensland. The exhibition features 25 works by ten artists, including Rosella Namok, whose paintings have graced the stage of the Wortham Theater as backdrops for Stanton Welch’s 2013 production of Rite of Spring. Her mother, Irene Namok, began painting just five years ago, and has already earned critical acclaim. Hobson has long been recognized for his spirit figure paintings, capturing ancient traditions in vibrant gestural markings. Gallery owner Nana Booker, honorary consul emeritus of Australia, and the artists will present a gallery talk at 4:15 pm.
