Sensuous Latin American Fashions Find a Home on the Edge of River Oaks: New Store Brings Unexpected Brands

BY // 09.30.17

Bonafide fashionistas know there is no denying that Latin American designers enjoy a deft hand when it comes to creating glamorous, sexy fashions. But perhaps not everyone is aware of the spectacular creative bent that wafts through Colombia, Mexico, Brazil and Peru.

Hello, Geraldine Boyer who intends to bring the vast spectrum of Latin American glamour to Houston.

At the grand opening of her boutique, Collectivo, in the cozy Westheimer Oaks development, Boyer, a native of Mexico City, allowed “I have lived in Houston 14 years and this is my second home. So, I want to bring to this city the glamour of what we have in Latin America, the glamour that some people don’t even know that we have.”

With several years in partnership with high-end resale shop Little Bird and additional miles on the fashion front representing Latin American brands in Europe and Scandinavia, Boyer decided it was time to launch on her own. “It was important for me to help our designers, the local talent of our countries in Latin America,” she says. “It was just the perfect time to have a concept store with so many possibilities.”

The second floor aerie behind Tenenbaum Jewelers, half a block from River Oaks District, boasts items from 21 designers in an ever changing stable of labels. Among them are Sandra Weil, Yakampot, Cihuah and Felina from Mexico; Pepa Pombo, Laura Aparicio and Verde Lion from Colombia; Balkanica and Alessandra Petersen from Peru; and Isolda from Brazil.

In addition to clothing and accessories at Collectivo, Boyer says, “Also, if I find an item like a candle or something that reflects the luxury of our lifestyle, I will have it. It’s everything I love and I want to share with everyone.”
