Watch Out, Fitbit?

A New Dallas-Area Player in the Wearable Tech Game Stylishly Challenges the Giants

BY India Pougher // 03.22.16

Wearable tech is one of the hottest trends right now — using compact devices like Fitbits, Ringly and, of course, the Apple Watch, you can tell how many steps you’ve taken, who’s calling and what’s on the calendar, all without actually looking at your phone.

Best of all, top fashion brands like Tory Burch and Hermès have jumped on board with chic, tech-savvy products.

Known for its accessory and timepiece collections, Richardson-based Fossil is the latest to roll out a line of wearable tech with Fossil Q, its new line featuring three types: display watches, non-display (smart analog) watches, and activity trackers, all slated for release between this summer and fall.

The Q Wander and Q Marshal (both from $275) are Fossil’s newest display watches, following the Q Founder. Offering customizable round touch-screen displays and leather bands, they also allow you to text. Fossil’s answer to the Fitbit, the Q Motion ($95), is a device that sends phone notifications, plays music and tracks activity and sleep. Bonus: It doesn’t need to be charged for six months.

The non-display watches (translation: they still feature traditional watch faces) are smarter analog watches that connect directly to a smartphone through the Fossil Q app and send phone notifications via a light on the side of the watch.
