Kara Ross & Donald Robertson Create Insta-Bags

BY Caroline Starry LeBlanc // 11.23.14

Talk about a culture collision made for the modern fashion maven (or man!). “Rock” goddess Kara Ross, whose handbags and chunky, jewel encrusted fine jewelry are the very definition of urban elegance, and Donald “Drawbertson” Robertson who has reached legendary status via Instagram (@donalddrawbertson) for his colorful, irreverent, wildly popular art, are teaming up for a limited series of bags. It seems mutual friend and designer Lisa Perry insisted that Mrs. Ross and Mr. Robertson meet and the resulting fast friendship quickly became a collaboration the universe should get a huge high-five for. The collection, a variety of shoulder bags, crossbodies, clutches and a tote Kara designed specifically for this project, integrate both of their unique styles and mutual affinity for luxury design and contemporary art. The bags are made of several materials including python, leather and wax-coated canvas, each to mimic Drawbertson’s avid use of the Whole Foods trash bag as a medium, and each in the 60 piece collection is numbered, signed and features one of Drawbertson’s signature “tags.” The result? Wearable art, friends. And, given the creative minds behind this venture, it’s just as cheeky and chic as you’d imagine. A tote bag made of python with a colorful, slithering snake painted on the side. A black leather version of the same bag with “Buy Sexual” scrawled on it. Various shout-outs to Kara’s profession with earrings, rings or jewels brightly drawn on clutches and shoulder bags. A tote covered in giant lipstick tubes that reads, “Makeup Bag.” Each is different and each is wonderful. These one-of-a-kind, hand-painted-by-“Drawbertson” beauties debut at the Kara Ross flagship store on Madison Avenue today and are sure to be instant classics, or, given Drawbertson’s preferred platform, “Insta”-classics. Get them while you can. Prices range from $395 to $3,500 and will be sold exclusively at the flagship Kara Ross store and on her website.

Home, chic home.
