When Dallas-based photographer Geof Kern shot his first Art of Fashion ad campaign for Neiman Marcus in the fall of 1995, he earned them Time magazine’s award for Best in Advertising. (He followed the immediate footsteps of legendary lensman Richard Avedon, who photographed Neiman’s inaugural Art of Fashion in 1994.)

This year, Kern returns as the mastermind behind the tony department store’s spring 2017 campaign, shot on location at a shipyard in Los Angeles.

The collage of images is true eye candy, featuring looks from designers including Caroline Herrera, Givenchy, Valentino, Gucci, Saint Laurent, Chloe, The Row, and Dolce & Gabbana, and set against a backdrop of spray-painted cars resembling vibrant sculptural pieces.

“Geof is a visionary,” says Georgia Christensen, Neiman Marcus vice president of brand creative who first conceptualized the Art of Fashion catalogue prior to its launch as a 24-page portfolio in Harper’s Bazaar. “After more than 20 years, he continues to amaze me.”
