Over the years, Barbie has acquired a wardrobe marked by style, and her recent designer collaborations prove she’s not slowing down. Barbie has enjoyed myriad lucrative partnerships, including clothes made by Dior, Oscar de la Renta, Vera Wang, and Carolina Herrera, and an entire shoe collection from Christian Louboutin.
So what brand did Mattel (the brains behind the Barbie brand) deem worthy of her next closet collab? None other than Moschino and its fearless leader, Jeremy Scott, which is only fitting, considering Barbie was the inspiration for the brand’s Spring 2015 ready-to-wear runway show.
“I wanted to bring all of the Moschino elements to Barbie, as I had done the reverse by bringing all of the Barbie elements to Moschino for the SS15 collection,” said Scott, in a Net-a-Porter press release. “The thing I love most about Barbie is that she is the ultimate muse; she’s worn every style and design imaginable, and at the same time she’s had every possible profession you can dream of.”
The dolls, which were released on Monday, November 9, through online boutique Net-A-Porter, sold out in just one hour. But considering that last year’s Karl Lagerfeld Barbie flew off the virtual shelves in the same hasty fashion, we can’t say we’re too surprised.
For those who failed to score the head-to-toe Moschino Barbie, there’s still a way to get a piece of the limited-edition doll in your closet. Scott not only created a line of clothing for Barbie, but also a capsule collection for her life-sized fans. The eight-piece lineup includes everything from a replica of the doll’s Moschino belt to a shirt plastered with the image of the decked-out doll.
It’s truly Barbie’s world, and we’re just living in it.
