The Ryan Goslings of Houston Fashion: These Dashing Gents Bring a Young Vision — and a Little Dallas Attitude

BY Jenny Antill Clifton // 11.21.16

An influx of Dallas XY gives us new fodder for Q&As. Three stores with Dallas roots have opened (or are about to open) in Houston’s River Oaks District.

We’ve known these guys for years, due to PaperCity Dallas, but you’ll be hearing from and seeing a lot more of these alpha males: Brian Bolke, 48, whose glamorous Forty Five Ten women’s and men’s boutique opens on Wednesday; race-car-driving Nick Boulle, 27, son of Denis and Karen Boulle, who is manning the family’s new de Boulle Jewelers; and Charlie Goyer, 33, son of Wes and Anne Goyer, owners of Saint Bernard, who is in charge of company culture and expansion.

Here is what is driving this power fashion trio’s fall:

NICK BOULLE: DE BOULLE JEWELERS

IN THE FALL. I take my dog Waldo (Wally, affectionately) on a long walk every morning, and the cool weather makes for a great start to the day.

ACQUIRING. A watch shows that you have places to be; your time matters. My top picks are the Rolex Milgauss and Patek Philippe 5712A. I also just got a pair of Paul Smith sneakers from his runway collection — Nastro in blue. And I’ve started wearing Psycho Bunny T-shirts, and they have gotten me into more conversations than I can count. Everybody seems to love the logo — I agree.

BEEN THERE, DONE THAT. I went to Monterey Car Week last year with a buddy, and it was the most fun I’ve ever had on a trip. The new and vintage cars were obviously fantastic, but the events were a blast, and so were the people we met along the way. Experience of a lifetime — my hope is to repeat it again this year.

TRAVELING. St. Bart’s in late summer to celebrate a very special birthday for my dad, Denis. Since opening in Houston, we’ve all worked very hard, so he deserved a respite in paradise.

DREAM TOY. The new Rolex Milgauss Porsche 911R. Word on the street is it’s made of “unobtanium,” but this car is as good as it gets.

ON THE HOME FRONT. I recently got stands for all my racing helmets. They’re special to me because of the memories attached to each. Not only does each have a unique design that I put months and months of thought into with my helmet painter, but I’ve traveled and competed in them for so long. I keep even the ones that helped me survive a crash a long time ago.

DINING HOUSTON AND DALLAS. In Houston, I love Toulouse in River Oaks District, as well as State of Grace, a little farther down Westheimer. In Dallas, I recently tried Sprezza — Jules Barsotti’s new restaurant is amazing.

ON THE MENU FOR YOUR FIRST FALL DINNER PARTY. I have a very small “arsenal,” if you will … My go-to is salmon.

DRINK OF CHOICE. I like to keep it pretty simple: Clasé Azul on the rocks with a splash of lime.

BIGGEST THING IN YOUR LIFE THIS FALL. I raced in the Lone Star Le Mans World Endurance Championship or IMSA race held at Circuit of the Americas in Austin mid- September. It’s a precursor to our run for the 2017 Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona.

CHARLIE GOYER: SAINT BERNARD

TRAVELING. My wife and I just got back from the Amalfi Coast. Our favorite stop was a lesser-known island called Ponza. We rented a little boat every day, took a picnic and wine in a cooler, anchored in a different spot each day, and read our books and swam. It was perfect. Great trip — so much good food! Now it’s time to hunker down and work hard for the next few months.

GEAR. I’m hoping to get back to Japan in February for a snowboarding trip. We went two years ago; it’s the most snow I’ve ever seen. I’ve been skiing since I was two years old. My go-to outerwear lately is Kjus FRX and Burton AK. I’ve been riding Never Summer snowboards for years now. Other essentials: Smith IOX goggles, Hestra gloves, and a POC jetforce airbag pack. Resort name: Hakuba Cortina Ski Resort.

NEW TOY LAUNCH. I love my new TaylorMade M1 driver. Bombing it!

Goyer recently read "Hug Your Customers," a retail novel, by Jack Mitchell.

READING. I just finished a great retail read called Hug Your Customers by Jack Mitchell.

DINING IN HOUSTON. Every time I come to Houston, we eat at Goode Company Seafood for lunch. It’s a ritual. I’ve also enjoyed getting acquainted with El Tiempo — very good Mexican.

DRINK OF CHOICE. I’m a beer guy. I love a good Pilsner or a German Helles.

BIGGEST THING IN YOUR LIFE THIS FALL. We opened a second Saint Bernard location in Austin Domain in late September. And then we’re into ski season, which is always busy.
