Texas Gets Its Own Version of Parsons: New College Design Program Comes From the Man Who Dresses the City’s Finest Ladies

BY // 05.18.16

Dallas fashion designer Michael Faircloth has long crafted couture for the city’s brightest, from philanthropists Dee Wyly, Ellen Winspear, Tiffany Divis and Lee Ann White to former First Lady Laura Bush, who wore a stunning red Faircloth gown to the 2001 Inaugural Ball.

He donates his fashionable talents to charity, having co-founded DIFFA’s legendary denim jacket auction and donated myriad designs to raise funds for The Crystal Charity Ball and The Dallas Opera. Now, our homegrown couturier is giving back to his alma mater, the University of North Texas.

“There, I discovered a career in fashion design,” says Faircloth, who had planned on becoming a lawyer prior to enrolling at the school’s College of Visual Arts and Design. “It has enriched my life beyond measure.” During a luncheon last month, Faircloth launched a campaign to raise a $2.5 million endowment for The Michael Faircloth Fashion Design Program to provide opportunities and scholarships for UNT students pursuing fashion. Move over, Parsons.
