Interior Design Star Launches a New Collection with Theatrical Flair: Break Out Your Top Hat, the Chic Magnet is Back

BY // 07.12.17

Award-winning interior designer Miles Redd has done it again. This weekend, fans of the Architectural Digest AD100 designer went wild when Redd posted an Instagram photo of his silhouette (donning a top hat, naturally) in front of a red background with the words “Miles Redd for Ballard Designs.”

Shortly thereafter, the 28-piece collection soft-launched on the leading home decor retailer’s website. The collection, currently available for pre-order, formally launches with the early-fall catalogue this August.

Ballard Designs has long been a go-to source for designers and consumers alike for affordable well-designed home decor and furnishings. In the past seven years, Ballard Designs has collaborated with two other celebrated designers — Suzanne Kasler and Bunny Williams — on collections.

Lovers of Redd’s glamorous, whimsical, and bold style just can’t get enough of his designs. His book The Big Book of Chic proudly rests atop smartly-styled coffee tables across the world, and his collections for Schumacher and Patterson Flynn Martin are frequently utilized by designers.

Karen Mooney, SVP of Brand for Ballard Designs says, “Miles is known for decorating with dramatic elements and putting together that are both unique and breathtakingly beautiful. His collection is the perfect complement to some of our more traditional pieces — you can easily blend it in with your current style or use multiple items in one room.”

“It is important to me that great design can move and evolve with you — looking beautiful is only part of the equation, it also has to make sense in order to work in your home,” Redd says. “Partnering with Ballard Designs gave me the canvas to create bold, impactful pieces which marry fashion and function. I’m excited to help the customer take their decorating to the next level.”

Color, Art Deco-inspired glamour, and Redd’s signature whimsy lace the collection, which includes casegoods, upholstery, wall decor, lighting and accessories. Highlights include the Extension dining table, Channeled slipper chair, and Diamond coffee table. The Extension dining table, a dual-pedestal table with bamboo-style legs based on a table owned by Babe Paley.

“I love pedestal dining tables because you can get so many chairs around them and never have an awkward leg get in the way,” Redd says.

The Channeled slipper chair is based off a 1930s chair in Miles Redd’s own New York apartment. The ideal scale for a bedroom accent chair, the piece is highly customizable in over 200 fabrics, trims and accents.

The Diamond coffee table’s glass top is reverse-painted in a vibrant green on the underside, making it easier to clean and more difficult to scratch. The diamond in the center adds visual intrigue and creates a frame for decorative objects like floral arrangements, candles and coffee table books.

“It’s generous without overpowering your space,” Redd says. “This table can still hold your chips and salsa, but it doesn’t make you feel like you’re speaking across an ocean like some coffee tables can do.”
