The Most Sought After Furniture Ever: New Texas Gallery Showcases a Late Legend’s Forward-Thinking Work

BY // 11.08.16

Milo Baughman, who designed some of the most sought-after modern furniture of the 20th century, had a 50-year collaboration with North Carolina furniture manufacturer Thayer Coggin that was as remarkable as it was long.

Baughman’s forward-thinking creations for Thayer Coggin — including the iconic 1953 Scoop chair, 1965 Cruisin’ lounge chair and ottoman, and 1968 T-Back lounge chair — not only made him a household name but launched the California modernist movement to the rest of the world.

Both Coggin and Baughman died in 2003, but the company, which is run by Coggin’s daughter Royale Coggin Wiggin, continues to produce Baughman’s complete collection, to his original and exact specifications.

This month, Living Modern Furnishings & Design opens Dallas’ first Thayer Coggin Gallery, devoting 1,000 square feet of space in its Oak Lawn Avenue store to the collection. The gallery includes 18 to 24 Baughman-designed pieces on the floor, including a selection of quick-ship pieces that can be produced in four weeks, says Living Modern’s CEO and principal Evan Gerstein.

Special and custom orders can also be placed for pieces not in store from Thayer Coggin’s entire line.

From $2,000 for a lounge chair, $4,000 for a sofa, with consideration to the trade, at Living Modern Furnishings & Design, 3900 Oak Lawn Ave., 214.559.7050.
