Any performance by world-renowned violinist Joshua Bell is unforgettable — but this one is even more special than usual. At the Houston Symphony’s 2015-2016 Season Opening Night Concert & Gala, the virtuoso will perform a work written just for him: William David Brohn’s arrangement of the West Side Story Suite. Chair Janet Clark, honorary chair Vicki West and underwriting chair David Wuthrich have orchestrated the black-tie celebration, which honors Symphony benefactress Margaret Alkek Williams. Highlights of the night include a champagne reception at The Corinthian; the Opening Night Concert at Jones Hall, conducted by music director Andrés Orozco-Estrada and featuring Joshua Bell and the Houston Symphony (George Gershwin’s An American in Paris and Stravinsky’s The Firebird will be other highlights of the performance); and the gala itself, back at The Corinthian, with dinner by Jackson and Company, decor by Bergner and Johnson, and dancing to the music of the Richard Brown Orchestra.
