Massive New CityCentre Store Boasts Cutting-Edge Design: The 10 Trends It Reveals

BY // 11.11.15

Coming in at 11,000 square feet, CityCentre’s newly opened West Elm location is a design behemoth. The store, which officially opened on Thursday, November 5, boasts a large, open concept that manages to perfectly showcase the brand’s signature clean lines and natural materials. Even in the substantial space, the store maintains a cozy feel through a series of intelligently designed vignettes that showcase a wide array of unique products.

Customers can expect West Elm store staples like the Design Lab — a complimentary service that helps clients plan their design projects. The full gamut of West Elm products is also available, including merchandise from West Elm’s local initiative, which highlights eight Texas-based creatives, including Houston’s own Workhorse Printmakers.

To fête the arrival of Houston’s newest West Elm location, the Brooklyn-based brand is sharing 10 design trends to watch for this fall (all of which you can find at any West Elm location).

1. LUSTER VELVET
This is one of West Elm’s favorite fabrics of the season. The textile adds instant shine to any room and can be used on everything from bedding to curtains.

2. FAUX FUR
Faux fur isn’t reserved for your winter wardrobe only. Fur is a great way to add a luxurious feel to any room. It also provides texture without introducing additional patterns.

3. GOLD FLATWARE
Bon Appétit magazine said it best: “The coolest silverware for your table isn’t silver at all.” For your next fall dinner party, opt for a Midas twist in lieu of your conventional flatware.

4. BLUSH
It’s this season’s new neutral.

5. GEOMETRIC SHAPES
Whether it’s oversized chevrons or distinct diamonds, geometric shapes are here to stay. Mix and match different patterns, or pair them with solid, staple pieces.

6. MID-CENTURY MODERN
Mad Men may have disappeared from the airwaves, but its mid-century style extends far past the show’s set. Be it bar carts or sleek consoles, it seems that timeless mid-century pieces will never go out of style.

7. MARBLE
Marble has become more than a material for floors and countertops. Everything from coffee tables to lamps is getting the marble treatment.

8. LOCAL GOODS
Locality continues to be a growing movement. West Elm is supporting small businesses by featuring locally made and designed products in each West Elm location. The CityCentre store showcases eight Texas-based creatives.

9. GIFTS THAT GIVE BACK
This season, decorate your home with gifts and products that help do good for others. Shop one of West Elm’s current partnerships like FEED, which provides meals for those in need.

10. FAIR TRADE & HANDMADE CRAFTS
In both fashion and interior design, the popularity of handmade, artisanal products continues to grow. Consider brands like Brother Vellies — a line that showcases handmade shoes from Africa and recently received the coveted CFDA/ Vogue Fashion Fund award. West Elm is also working to empower artisan workers by partnering with 20 groups in 15 different countries, including papier-mâché art from Haiti, hand-loomed pillows from India, artisan mirrors from Peru and handcrafted vases from the Philippines.
