5 Great Hurricane Harvey Charity Benefits: Bun B, Jamie Foxx and Everyday Houstonians Come Together

BY // 09.01.17

Hurricane Harvey’s reign has finally come to an end, and with the storm’s departure comes the arduous rebuilding process. Many Houstonians have already stepped up to the plate, stocking temporary shelters with a surplus of donations and volunteers.

In addition to the monstrous volunteer efforts, many have banded together to organize large-scale, Harvey benefits to further support the historic storm’s victims.

From star-studded concerts to restaurant fêtes, here are five Harvey benefits that deserve a place on your calendar.

United We Stand
It’s no surprise that Houston icon Bun B is on the front lines of Hurricane Harvey fundraising. The Texas-born rapper has confirmed that he has teamed up with famed music manager Scooter Braun to plan a star-studded, televised Harvey benefit concert.

Braun was a major force behind the One Love Manchester benefit concert — an effort to raise money for the victims of June’s Manchester Arena bombing, which unfolded at an Ariana Grande concert.

Bun B and Jamie Foxx — also a Texas native — are reported to be organizing the upcoming concert, which may happen as soon as September 12, broadcasting from Los Angeles, New York City, and Nashville.

Reese Witherspoon, Blake Shelton, and Kelly Rowland are all rumored to be involved.

Come Together at King’s
King’s Bierhaus has already stepped up to the plate in more ways than one to ease the stress from Hurricane Harvey. Even though The Heights restaurant took in half a foot of water, owner Phillip Sitter still managed to open the doors earlier this week to shell out free beers to Houstonians.

Now, the German-American restaurant and biergarten is taking its generosity to new heights with a Labor Day soiree aimed at raising funds for Hurricane Harvey victims, with special attention being given to the King’s employees that have been affected by the storm.

Head to the bierhaus, Monday, September 4 from 11 am to 10 pm for a day of festive fare and libations. One hundred percent of the event’s proceeds will be distributed to Hurricane Harvey victims.

Guests are also welcome to drop off donations. The beer haven is requesting travel-sized toiletries, wheelchairs, bottled water, individually packaged foods, and pillows.

Added bonus: King’s father-son proprietary duo Hans and Phillip Sitter have also founded The Sitter Foundation, which will work to help families that have experienced recent or sudden tragedies. For more information, email [email protected].

#HealingForHarvey
Silver Street Studios will set the stage for a mega donation party — Healing for Harvey — this Friday evening from 6 to 8 pm. Guests can drop off a bevy of donations — clothing, water, toiletries, canned food, and school supplies are being requested — while partying to the sounds of DJ Cee Watts.

All of the collected donations will be hand delivered to local shelters.

Songwriters for Hurricane Harvey
Music is often used to bring people together in times of sorrow, so it’s no surprise that a group of Texas-bred songwriters are banding together for a one-of-a-kind musical tribute.

Hosted by Nick Russo of Texas country station 100.3 The Bull, Songwriters for Hurricane Harvey will take place on Sunday, September 17 at the Firehouse Saloon (5930 Southwest Freeway).

Brace yourself for sounds by Rich O’Toole, Micah Cheatham, Jake Ward, Daniel Lynn, Julia Cole, Bubba Westley, and more. All of the night’s proceeds will benefit Hurricane Harvey victims.

#FUHarvey
Libations and donations come together this weekend for bar and restaurant Presidio’s #FUHarvey party. The Heights restaurant is aiming to spread a little joy in these tough times with flowing drinks and local camaraderie.

In the midst of the celebration, Presidio is asking patrons to also bring donations to help benefit Hurricane Harvey victims. A free Lone Star beer will be given to everyone who donates.
