Houston’s New Downtown Food Hall Makes a Major Reveal: And the Restaurants Will Follow

BY // 08.14.17

Houston’s one step closer to a new Downtown food hall. Earlier this year, news broke that The Jones on Main in the JPMorgan Chase & Co. building would be the site of a future food hall, then dubbed The Food Hall at Main and Rusk.

Now, a final name has been revealed. The new food-centric venue will be called Finn Hall, an ode to Alfred C. Finn, the architect of the historic building — erected in 1929 — and one of Texas’ leading Art Deco minds throughout the first half of the 20th century.

Clocking in at 20,000 square feet, Finn Hall will house 10 food stands/outposts alongside a craft cocktail, beer, and wine bar as well as an Art Deco-style cocktail lounge and private event spaces.

While the identity of the restaurants which will fill the food hall have not been confirmed yet, you can expect a variety of eateries dishing out chef-driven plates for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

“Finn Hall is a great opportunity for the next generation of culinary talent to develop their craft in a turnkey space and for Houstonians to gather for a unique communal dining experience,” Finn Hall operator David Goronkin says. “This gathering place will honor both the history of the building and its magnificent décor in the name Finn Hall.”

Finn Hall adds to the growing Texas food hall trend. Just last year, Conservatory — an underground food hall and beer garden beneath the 1920s-themed Prohibition Supperclub — made its debut, being billed as Downtown Houston’s first curated food hall and showcasing everything from barbecue and crepes to pokë and gyros.

Plano will also welcome the massive Legacy Hall this fall, a venue modeled after the food halls in top culinary destinations such as New York, San Francisco, and Washington D.C. The opening marks the first space of its kind in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

As for Finn Hall, lookout for its debut in early 2018. Finn Hall, 712 Main Street, finnhallhtx.com
