Grammy Winner Brings the Razzle Dazzle to this Houston Luncheon: Dapper Singer Serenades More than 500 Women

BY // 10.15.17

What could make midday sweeter than the lyrical sounds of song man/producer Steve Tyrell? The Houston native brought it home for Memorial Hermann‘s Razzle Dazzle “Radiance” luncheon where he serenaded a swooning group of more than 500 women and a sprinkling of men.

The ballroom of the Westin Memorial City Hotel was awash in shades of pink and rose as the gathering fashionably celebrated Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The $300,000 raised at the eighth annual luncheon goes to the Bobetta C. Linding Breast Care Center at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center.

Luncheon chairs Philamena Baird, Houston Arts Alliance board chair, and Regina Garcia, owner of  the specialty shop Events, added the “radiance” to the always colorful Razzle Dazzle luncheon. The creative duo designed pearl and rhinestone brooches for every guest, the sparkling pins tucked inside dazzling gift boxes. “As a sign of unity,” Baird told the eager crowd, “we ask that you wear this brooch and make a commitment to share your radiance in the world.”

Noting that true radiance comes from within, the chairs joined the gathering in honoring Hallie Vanderhider — a managing partner with Denver-based SFC Energy Partners, community leader, three-time breast cancer survivor and a self-admitted fashionista. In introducing Vanderhider, Anne Neeson, Memorial Herman Foundation CEO and EVP, noted “Hallie is a woman of substance and style. Her commitment to this community is inspiring and we are honored she is an amazing supporter of Memorial Hermann.”

The fast paced program included leadership of emcee Len Cannon, KHOU Channel 11 news anchor, and contributions from breast cancer survivor Leigh Rozelle and Bill King, who conducted the live auction in his typically charming manner. Adding to the bottom line was Tenenbaum Jewelers, which contributed a $10,000 gift card with entry to win a $25 donation.

Who: Memorial Hermann Health System president and CEO Chuck Stokes, Susan Sarofim, Dr. Yvonne Cormier (in her pink scrubs), Sandy Barrett, Carol Linn, Donna Vallone, Tony Bradfield, Kristina Somerville, Gina Gaston, Bobbie Nau, Merele Yarborough, Soraya McClellan, Fady Armanious, Robin Mueck, Bobetta Lindig, Franelle Rogers and Stacy Johnson.
