“Habsburg Splendor: Masterpieces from Vienna’s Imperial Collections”

BY // 06.24.15

Get ready to #MeetTheHabsburgs: Europe’s longest reigning dynasty, the Habsburgs, emperors of the Holy Roman Empire, commissioned extraordinary art to create quite the cache of luxurious treasures, ranging from paintings (including Caravaggio, Correggio and Rubens) and sculpture to suits of armor, ornate carriages, arms and court costumes, all collected during the centuries of the House of Habsburg’s regal reign. In a summer-long celebration of royalty and history — from the Habsburgs’ emergence in the Middle Ages to the dynasty’s end at the conclusion of World War I — more than 90 objets d’art from Vienna’s storied Kunsthistorisches Museum come to Houston for the first time, including many pieces that have never left Austria before.
