Storied Houston Non-Profit Celebrates 110 Years — and Changes Its Name: A New High-Tech Future

PC Moment: On the occasion of the non-profit’s 110th anniversary, organizers announced a new name for the entity that is officially joining forces with the Daniel and Edith Ripley Foundation. The two have partnered in providing for under-served areas for 77 years. Henceforth, the non-profit  will be known as BakerRipley. The luncheon honored Polly and Murry Bowden with the Alice Graham Baker Award for their community contributions.

Highlight of the luncheon was announcement that Chevron would contribute $1 million for a STEM-oriented facility in east Aldine where area residents will have access to fabrication tools, computers and 3-D printers.

Who: Mayor Sylvester Turner, BakerRipley CEO Angela Blanchard, Harris County Judge Ed Emmett and wife Gwen, former Secretary of State James A. Baker III and wife Susan, Chevron’s Joni Baird, Sandy and Mike Ballases, Townes Pressler, Hank Holmes, former Mayor Annise Parker, and Brooke and Carlos Silva.
