Truffles take center stage at this flavor-filled event.
Is there any ingredient more delectable than the truffle? For the third year in a row, DR Delicacy — the only importer of fresh truffles in the southern United States — presents its annual culinary event, The Truffle Masters (previously known as the Houston Truffle Chef Charity Challenge).
The event tasks 24 chefs from some of Houston’s most notable restaurants to create a winning dish using fresh truffles imported directly from Spain.
Competing chefs include: Sidney Degaine (Café Azur), Robert Del Grande (Café Annie), David Denis (Le Mistral), Tommy Elbashary (B&B Butchers and Restaurant), Maurizio Ferrarese (Quattro), Enrico Glaudo (Ristorante Cavour), Edel Goncalvez (Fieldings Local Kitchen + Bar), Jose Hernandez (Radio Milano), Ryan Hildebrand (Triniti Restaurant), Mark Holley (Holley’s Seafood Restaurant & Oyster Bar), Manabu Horiuchi (Kata Robata), Kris Jacobs (Brasserie 1895), Brandi Key (SaltAir Seafood Kitchen), Jason Kohler (Central Market), Adison Lee (KUU Restaurant), Barbara McKnight (Culinaire), Omar Pereney (Peska Seafood Culture), Manuel Pucha (La Table), Luis Roger (BCN Taste & Tradition), Sandro Scarafile (Sud Italia Ristorante), Austin Simmons (Hubbell & Hudson), David Skinner (Eculent), Danny Trace (Brennan’s of Houston), and Lee White (D-Leecious Bites).
The winner of the culinary battle — selected by featured judges Phaedra Cook, Holly Crawford, Jacques Fox, Alice Levitt, Mai Pham, Tanji Patton, Eric Sandler, Janice Schindeler, Pat Sharpe, Cleverley Stone, Robin Barr Sussman, and Katherine Whaley — walks away with 1 kilogram of fresh black truffles as well as a glistening trophy. The first runner up will also receive 500 grams of truffles, followed by 250 grams for the second runner up.
The night’s proceeds benefit Houston culinary and hospitality scholarship programs. The brand’s 2015 and 2016 events helped raise a sum of $40,000 for the cause.
