Skating on Thin Ice at the MFAH (with Monet). The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, has ramped up the energy this week with its $450 million capital campaign announcement, capped off by the official news of three new buldings. More coming in our February issue and online … Meanwhile, clever and engaging out-of-the-box initiatives such as the opportunity to skate under a cache of extraordinary Monets make this weekend one to remember. Space is limited, so obtain your ticket now, which also includes ice skate rental: mfah.org/monet. We’ve seen the jewel-box show “Monet and the Seine: Impressions of a River” installed in the expansive reaches of the Upper Brown, Law Building, and we were struck by how modern the canvases feel. How intriguing to glide across the ice-covered floors of Cullinan Hall, just below the exhibit, before or after taking in the paintings by the big man of Impressionism (Saturday and Sunday, January 17 and 18, only).
