The New Bruce Lee Watch is No Trinket: It’s a $30,000 Timepiece With Plenty of Kick

BY // 12.01.15

Hublot is a young watch company — founded only in 1980 — but its relative youth has not prevented it from making design and creative waves. It’s brought many excellent timepieces to the market, and has a special place in the hearts of collectors: its Big Bang models and limited editions are reserved years in advance.

Now, enters the dragon: The Nyon, Switzerland-based company has just released a limited-edition watch to honor the legend that is Bruce Lee. It’s called “Spirit of Big Bang for Bruce Lee,” and only 75 of them will be made, so get your order in rapidly if you want one. It has a tonneau case made of sand-blasted ceramic, and sports Hublot’s HUB4700 movement, plus 50 hours of reserve power. The strap — black and gold alligator sewn on natural rubber — pays homage to Lee’s trademark colors, and provides a timeless and athletic look to the piece.

“Icon of the 20th century, and one of the most influential martial artists of all time, Bruce Lee’s life embodies the art of fusion. An east-west cultural fusion. Based on his personal martial arts philosophy, he broke the traditional boundaries of different martial art styles and created a new spirit: the Jeet Kune Do. By joining hands with the Bruce Lee Foundation, Hublot has set up a memorial exhibition and created a watch as a tribute to the pioneer of an era, an immortal legend,” Hublot CEO Ricardo Guadalupe says.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Hublot for creating the Spirit of Big Bang Bruce Lee Limited Edition and for staging this special exhibition to commemorate my father’s 75th birthday,” said Shannon Lee, speaking at an event in Hong Kong last month that celebrated the unveiling of the watch. “I am also thankful to see how my father’s spirit has inspired people over the years. I hope that my father’s spirit and philosophy will be passed on forever.”

The timepiece retails for around $30,000.
