What: The Glasstire Gala and Art Auction Preview Party

Where: Sloan/Hall

PC Moment: Glasstire’s second annual art auction and gala — this year themed San Antonio Comes to Houston! — kicked off with a high-style preview fiesta hosted at River Oaks’ haute spot, on-trend retailer Sloan/Hall. Guests got a first look at 36 pieces to be auctioned at the upcoming bash.

Hosts and style arbiters Marcus Sloan and Shannon Hall, long-time devotees of the arts, welcomed collectors and arts patrons with festive Tex-Mex fare provided by Sloan/Hall’s next door neighbor, Armandos.

Signature cocktails by Treaty Oak Gin flowed as the posh patrons enjoyed a sneak preview of Glasstire’s exclusive lots that highlight San Antonio talents, among them Kelly O’Connor, Jimmy James Canales and Ricky Armendariz, whose works attracted particular interest.

O’Connor’s Bottom of the Ocean (Miami, FL) collage pops with vibrant color contrasted by muted tones of vintage record covers. Canales’ Botas de Cuchillas sculpture features black cowboy boots adorned with 110 knife blades and filled with dirt from the four corners of San Antonio. Armendariz’s woodblock print carved and burned with images of eagles is titled Modern Prometheus Unbound (Remix).

Save the date: Glasstire’s vibrant gala for the collecting set goes down this Friday, January 18. Chaired by Marita and J.B. Fairbanks, Eleanor and Dan Gilbane, and Shannon Hall and Marcus Sloan, the bash takes place at East downtown’s newest industrial venue, The Space HTX. It would not be a Glasstire event without fun-loving frivolity, and this soirée  includes a performance by drag queen Ada Vox, a San Antonio native and 2018 Top 10 finalist on American Idol.

See Vox in a performance here:

Catering is by Tim the Girl with librations courtesy of Treaty Oak Distilling, Tito’s Vodka, and Palmaz Vineyard, with beats by DJ Men-Yo to keep the party on its feet.
