Groundbreaking Celebrity Playwright Headed to Houston for a Big Night: It’s Angels, Pulitzers and Inprint

BY // 01.20.16

Angels in America is one of my favorite plays, and the film made from it, which aired on HBO and is still available for viewing, is a masterpiece. Al Pacino, Meryl Streep, Mary-Louise Parker and Emma Thompson headlined the ensemble cast, and I watch the epic at least once a year. It is that good. I lived in NewYork when the play made its Broadway premiere, and ever since I first read the script, I’ve followed the career of its playwright, Tony Kushner.

Now, more than two decades since that premiere at the Walter Kerr Theatre, I look forward to meeting Kushner in Houston. He’s the guest speaker at the 2016 Inprint Poets & Writers Ball, which takes place Saturday, February 6. (For more information and to purchase tickets, click here.)

Inprint is a Houston gem, and if you’ve never attended one of its readings or events, you have missed much. The organization was founded in 1983, and its Margarett Root Brown Reading Series has brought to Houston more than 350 writers from 28 countries, including Nobel laureates and winners of Pulitzers Prizes and the National Book Award.

The Poets & Writers Ball is the perfect way to support Inprint and its endeavors. And where else will you be able to rub shoulders with so many lovers of the written word and a Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright?
